Machrihanish Golf Course with the first hole being rated the best opening hole in the world is a mecca for golfers from all over the world. With Machrihanish Dunes right next door and four other rated courses within an hours drive there is plenty of variety to challenge all levels of player.

In the clean, clear water of Machrihanish Bay and Westport

Walking:

As gentle or strenuous as you wish, follow the Town Trail or climb Ben Ghuilean forest walk, stroll along sandy beaches or walk at low water to Davaar Island to find the cave painting discovered by fishermen in 1887. Head inland for rough walking or follow parts of the Kintyre Way and enjoy wonderful views and fantastic unspoilt scenery.

Both Springbank Distillery (01586 552009) and Glen Scotia Distillery (01586 552288) host several tours that are a must for anyone interested in Scotland’s whisky heritage or indeed anyone who fancies a dram.

Gin Distillery:

Beinn An Tuirc Distillery at Torrisdale Estate is Kintyre’s own fabulous sustainable gin distillery. They also have a cafe, run tours and have an excellent gin school – 01583 431528.

The cinema is the oldest continuously run, purpose-built cinema in Scotland still showing films.
